A personal advice and workshop
A few months ago, a client asked me: “The interior of my house is in a dreadful state and my house needs at least a new layer of paint. However, I love to do it myself. I am hesitating, because last time I painted one wall, it took me 5 times of driving to the construction market to have all the needed materials. And, the result came out poorly.”
Let’s do it together, I said. I will come to your house to give you some colour advises, check the current paint layers and make a list to order materials. After that, you order the materials, and together we will get your project off the ground. With some tips and tricks, you will have a way better result.
And, off we went. Within 2.5 hours, the first two walls were repaired and already painted, with a good result.

What can I expect from the workshop?
It is completely based on your specific situation.
First, I come to your house to see the current situation. We decide on the materials.
Also, personal colour advice is given. Taking in account the colours which are already in your house and your personal taste!
After that, a list of materials is made, which you can order yourself.
Then, we will pick a date for the workshop.
Put your old clothes on, and we are ready to start painting.
I asked Marijke for her advice and expertise regarding painting my apartment. She was clear about which information she needed from me to make preliminary calculations. After I agreed to proceed, she came and advised me regarding colour choices, placed the order for all the materials, and helped me get things started.

About me
As a child, I always had some kind of craft project on the go. Whatever the materials involved – wood, paper, paints – being creative made me happy. From age 16, I trained as a decoration and restoration painter.
Then, eager to learn more, I studied to become a teacher, specializing in building maintenance, management and completion.
It was during this period that I first came into contact with internationals. Thanks to them, my world grew and expanded.
I took a job with a building company. As a construction planner, my day-to-day duties included preparing quotations, making cost calculations, planning projects and purchasing materials and labour.
This knowledge, combined with a natural curiosity and interest in people, makes Settle Down Support. My aim is that everyone’s house will be home. I want to help you feel welcome and feel at home in this country and in your house. So you have more energy for things that matters to you.
Frequently asked questions
Is a house visit on forehand necessary?
Ever tried to define a colour from a picture? That doesn’t work, as colours may differ from the angle of the sun. Also, by visiting your house, we will check the condition of the surface. So, we will order the right materials for your situation.
Are you able to come to Amsterdam for this workshop?
Sorry, it’s too far. The workshop is possible up to a radius of 30km from Eindhoven.
How much time will it cost me to paint the whole living room?
Of course, this depends on how large your room is if there are a lot of corners and the surface. Count on 6–14 hours of work for the walls and ceiling.
What kind of materials do you advise?
Only quality materials. A good quality of materials will give a way better result. And, in the end, it can save also time.
What do I need to prepare?
Just think of which colour you like. Also, order the materials from the list on the forehand. And, cleaning the surface before the workshop starts will help too.
